A manifesto for education: The point of Education in Times of Unrest

Datum 2025-05-07 09:00 - 17:00
Plats Mälardalens universitet, campus Eskilstuna, Hamngatan 15, sal A1-068

In 2010, Gert Biesta and Carl Anders Säfström, started a conversation about education in the MDU-cafeteria. This conversation would lead to the publication of “A Manifesto for Education” in Policy Futures in Education the following year. It was
a critical and creative text that encouraged the reader to think "educationally about education". Translated into several languages it is continuously cited in diverse publications and remains relevant for both academics and practitioners.

To celebrate this moment, the authors will revisit the Manifesto together with educational scholars and artists who will respond to it in various ways, through texts, poems, music, and other forms of expression. The idea is to let the range of responses enrich a common understanding of the Manifesto and its implications. Following the responses there will be a conversation where we invite the audience
to engage in a conversation about the future possibilities for public education.
